Hey Gorgeous, The Blog

Nov 19

HGE Needs YOU!

Oh hello! Guess what? Today I need YOUR help, blogettes.

See I have this new brand launching in less than a month (like you didn’t know this already ha!) and with that new brand will come a new blogging schedule and structure. I have in my head what I think sounds pretty darn good but what’s good to me isn’t always good to you and you guys are the ones who make this blog what it is. So what I need today is your help! I want to know what you love seeing here, what entices you to leave comments and encourage discussion, what you love about stopping by HGE, and what you would want to hear about should I decide to bless you with my voice and start putting together some videos. I’m coming up on my four year blogging anniversary and to say this blog is a big part of my brand and identity is an understatement. I want to continue to grow and evolve and I hope you can give me a bit of feedback to help do just that.

All you need to do is leave a comment here with what you like, don’t like, want to see more of, want to hear more of, and even better I’d love to know about YOU! Are you a bride to be who loves wedding related advice and help? Or are you happily married and just as obsessed over finding the perfect shade of gray for your living room walls? Or maybe you’re my Mom and you read by default. Whoever you are let me know! I owe so much of my success to my blog and the people who continually read, comment and share the love I pour into it. I hope someone comments and tells me how much they love balloons like me.

Happy Monday, friends! Is anyone else fasting in preparation for Thursday’s celebration? :) Photo via Kelly Braman.

  1. Hi pretty lady! I love your authenticity on the blog, and I think it should continue. So many people are able to relate, AND it helps to show the PERSON behind the brand, which is so so so important. Continue being you. xoxo

I love learning from you. My favorite posts are the ones where you share what you’ve been learning. Maybe you’ve learned a lesson through setting new office hours, having goals for the month, or a weekend of rest. I love seeing what’s been on your heart and being inspired by what you’re doing in your business. I love that I never leave discouraged, but always encouraged. I can’t wait to see more of you after the rebrand. :)

  3. Well, even thought I’ve only been reading your blog for a little over a month (how is that possible?) I absolutely love everything about it! I feel like I’m absolutely, 100% getting Rhi in all her Gorgeous glory (see what I did there? :)) & that’s why I love it. Your honesty & authenticity gives us a glimpse into the heart of your brand & makes the essence of you so relatable. Keep doing what you’re doing! Also, I share a deep-heart love for helium-filled latex :) Although, I’m partial to Geronimo balloons myself–go big or go home! Can’t wait to see the new Hey Gorgeous emerge in just less than one month!

  4. I’m just a girl who loves weddings & who tries my best to balance my wedding business with my life outside of weddings. I’ll always tune in to see pretty HGE weddings & to read any business/life advice. Wherever you take your blog next, it will be fabulous!

i definitely need to do this for my blog and might even do a survey monkey so people don’t feel like they need to be overly nice (although that kind of scares me too – ha!) ok here are my thoughts:

    1. obviously i’m MARRIED because i can’t stop talking about it, but my love for weddings hasn’t waned. i loveLOVE your wedding posts, but in particular, i love seeing the special little details (like the the bouquets you hand-make or those fab pastel hanging thingies at MB & Tom’s wedding). i’d also love to see more about your creative process – what inspires you, inspiration boards etc.

    2. i LOVE the DIY posts. they’re so pretty and lovely and mostly doable for me. more please! also, videos sound fabulous!

    3. i love your writing voice – it’s real and honest and your passion for what you do comes through. keep it up!

    4. ooh and more of the home design and decor! loved your old girl cave posts and the house project ones and would love to see more. i don’t think we’ve seen the new girl cave, have we??

    5. this may be in the works, but maybe a table of contents or labels so posts are easier to find?

I am a bride to be so I was brought here by wedding inspiration – but I couldn’t have said it better than Nicole. In addition to your super pretty weddings, photos and flowers.. I come back because of all the reasons she stated :) I’m super inspired by how you’ve built your business, your rebranding and your eloquent advice!

  7. Vika Moka says:

I love the posts where you speak about your experience, what you’ve learned with your business, what you’re struggling to achieve, how you combine it with your personal life and your vision for your brand. I also love your DIY posts and finally, as I’m neither a bride-to-be, nor happily married (yet), nor your mother (!), I love to have a peek in your house which is so lovely decorated ! But don’t get me wrong, if my boyfriend ever proposes, I’ll be the happiest bride-to-be, having a look at all the wonderful weddings you planned, trying to glean little tricks that will help make my wedding the most beautiful day of my life :)
By the way, I can’t wait to see what you will come up with for your rebrand ! I’m sure it will be so inspiring, as always …

  8. Megan says:

I love your pep-talk Tuesdays. I have my favorite one (You are not superwoman) bookmarked so I can go back and reread whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed. You give great advice for wedding planning that I will certainly go back to as soon as he pops the question! The little sneak peeks into your life are fun as well – you have such a great eye for design and seeing little bits of your home and family are so sweet. You’re quite impressive and inspiring, please keep it up!

(Vatne Designs earrings are so on my Christmas list!!!) I wish i could give you a hug, because i too am a bubbly person and love meeting other rays of sunshine! I like to read your posts because your voice shines through, as though you were right here talking to me. I also enjoy learning and reading posts about you and your business. It helps me on my venture in starting my business.

  18. Lauren says:

Im a girl who is just about to graduate college and go off into the big crazy event world. Your posts are inspiring and fresh. I love listening to your struggles of the personal life mixing with the business life. I love how you define so many misconceptions about what this field does and give some behind the scene looks. Lets face it the DIY’s show your fun, authentic, artistic side. You can reach all types of people whether its brides, married women, or just a Miss Type A college girl who is in love with the organizing/planning, stressful long hours, and seeing how happy the bride and groom are at the event. Great job and as a follower of your blog for 3 years now, I am excited to see what comes next for you! Good luck and always follow your heart because you are amazing at what you do!

    * Lauren

P.S. I love the table of contents idea from Ashley.

  19. Victoria says:

hello! i love reading every bit of your blog- but just love hearing about how you incorporate your style into the world. i’d love to see more posts about your home, some about your closet, and also the weddings you style! my wedding is 40 days away and i have been inspired greatly by you for our wedding and future home! XO

  20. Laura Barnes says:

I love everything as it has been! I think you’re doing a great job and can’t wait to see the relaunch!

Posts that I would find interest in:
    – DIY projects and ideas.. everything you do is always amazing!
    – maybe a few tips on flowers (simple and basic).. I know nothing, but all the bouquets you make are to die for!
    – I enjoy reading about another small business owner talk about their business, real talk not always happy and perfect
    – I love how personal and professional you are at the same time

    Hope that helps! xoxo Laura

Hi! I love your authenticity. I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago and have fallen in love. I adore your love and compassion within every post. Don’t change a thing!

I’m a young wedding and event planning enthusiast fascinated by everything bridal. Simply put, I am in love with love. I couldn’t imagine anything better than planning someones dream come true every day and I admire you for making that dream come true. I graduated from college about six months ago and want to take that leap of faith of opening my own business but I’ve been hesitating due to fear. Reading what you write makes me want to run and jump. I would love to sit down and talk with you about your accomplishments and what you have learned along the way.

I can’t wait to see your relaunch and wish you the best of luck as you continue to touch so many people’s lives.

I am engaged to my sweet high school sweetheart and currently planning my wedding for this summer. I absolutely love getting wedding inspirations from your posts. I also love reading about your personal life with your hubby and puppy (I am a puppy momma as well). As a recent college grad trying to find my way in the job world, i love reading your encouraging words about business and life.

  23. Miriam says:

I’m no where near planning a wedding, but I’ve been reading your blog religiously for years! I love when you show pictures of people’s weddings! I’m a huge fan!

  24. jas says:

Hello lovely lady! Well, I’ve been reading your blog since way back when you were baking and heck sometimes I even wonder if it was the same blogging lady who writes all this, not because you’re different but because you’ve grown so much! So, I’m a little loyal like that following you along your gorgeous pink, perfect grey and white journey (seriously I put on that trio of colours the other day to wear to work and I thought of you – is that really weird seen as we’ve never met?!) I love reading it all, from your personal goals for the month (makes me do a mental list of my own), business goals and then how you get there through seeing your home being built, snippets of your new HGE HQ, your gorgeous DIY’s and those cocktails are YUMMO and then your 101’s. Having loved events planning and pretty things from a young age I simply love stopping by and seeing it all here with your sweet voice jumping off my screen. Although I don’t comment on everything I read I do chime in when I’ve a moment. Now that I’m engaged and planning our wedding, I’m loving going back through your archives and finding my own black lace moments ;)

Can’t wait to see the next step of your journey xx

  25. Rhi, I, like everyone else here, love it all. Your pep talk posts, your simple bouquet shots, insight into your business and monthly goals, the weddings you’ve planned, your gorgeous home. I think we definitely need more florals although I’m sure with the relaunch and the additional planning service we’ll be seeing a lot more of this (it’d be great to see what “ingredients” go into your spectacular creations!). Don’t ever ever stop the pep talks and authenticity. And, I agree, MORE home design and my fingers are crossed for a tour of that new girl cave. You’re awesome and inspirational, girl. Keep it up.

  26. Nora Rose says:

Love your blog and the authenticity. I love how gorgeous and “on brand” everything looks but still is attainable and not too styled. I also loveeee your personal style and would love to see more of that. Your “farble” is standing as part of our new kitchen ideas too!

  27. Holly says:

I love it all! :) But I especially love your DIY posts. I’d love to see a lot more of that, maybe a video here and there too!

  28. Jessica says:

Hi Rhi! I’m a newlywed, but I still love reading and seeing real weddings and inspiration. So many fun details from weddings can be used for parties and decorating. But I do especially love your DIY posts and your real experience posts (Comparison the Thief of Joy and Gaining an Instagram Following). Those are the best. I love hearing about all things outside the business that make you, YOU.

I can’t wait for your rebrand. I adore flowers. I hope you do lots of features on creating flower combos and stylings for the home!

  29. D says:

I would like to see more outfit posts (you have the best style!), more sneak peeks of your new house, and some general photos of your life in Michigan. I like you blogging about the little stuff!

  30. Janet says:

Hi Rhi! I’m so excited and am looking forward to your new brand, even though I already feel your current brand is amazing! Not sure what else to expect, but more awesomeness. ;) as for what I love about your blog, it’s the mixture of your business which you can tell is something you absolutely love, along with your personal touch, style, and feelings on things from your home to wedding details. It’s nice to know you’re a fantastic designer with a great eye, but also a bit OCD, like me, which only makes sense of how you can wrap this all up in one pretty little package and with such grace. I like reading about your home, personal struggles, DIY’s, and of course the wedding details!!! The personal stories only make people feel like you’re a real person and can understand all you do and all the effort that goes into your work. Your blog brings a sense of calmness and that down-to-earth-feeling that makes people go, “hmmm, she’s just like me,” which allows you to stand out from others. Even though I am already married, I check your blog every couple of days waiting to see what DIY, wedding, or personal story you will share. Wishing I could have had the courage to open up my own business, but glad to know someone did it and its not all corporate places making weddings happen. You inspire me in so many ways and for that, I thank you! Good Luck!! :)

  31. As a new planner I loved your day in the life posts both in the office and at a wedding. Would love more behind the scenes like that especially as you expand into florals! I love learning from you!

  32. Kris says:

Hi Rhi! I’m a newlywed … 2 weeks in and loving it all!

I just love all the florals you do! I’d love to see more DIY floral arrangements :)

If someone were to ask me my dream in life, I’d answer wedding planner! Right now, I’m not there but I’d love to get into the industry. I am obsessed with all things wedding, the flowers, the dresses, and most importantly the love! Even before I began planning my wedding, I knew it was something I wanted to do. One day …

I love reading your blog and also seeing your pics on Insta … keep up the beautiful work, love seeing it all!

  33. Barbara says:

Hi, I’m a bride from Hungary, Europe and I just love this pretty blog! I love all the DIY and beautiful bouquets and photos of what YOU do! I got lots of idea from you. I just love it all!!

  34. sarah m says:

i started reading your blog back when you were making cupcakes in chicago because i know you from childhood and i felt interested in the start to your media career – i still have that interest, but i keep coming back to your blog because its so PRETTY.

i’m not quite at the wedding stage – but closer than ever before! – and i feel like your blog gives me a sense of what my style might be. when i particularly like a colour, or a floral, or a table setting or even an interior from your home – i see it more clearly when i’m styling my own life. you made me embrace gray! i see your blog as a way to keep up with an old friend (even passively as just a reader) but also as a way to get style inspiration for my own life.

my favourite posts are ones that include not only pictures of the weddings you have worked on – but also the process. same goes for your home. i like to see the sneak peeks of the projects you’re working on, and then see it come to life in the final photos of the big day. seeing the little elements fit into the final vision is cool. also really love your exposure of vendors and their gorgeous work.

i’m so proud of you! this is such a cool business you have built. you better believe you will be helping me one day… as a client!! i hope :)

  35. Ashley Baker says:

Always love coming to your blog because everything you post is interesting, informative, and so pretty! When I was planning my wedding, I absolutely loved seeing pictures of weddings you had done or pretty inspiration. Now that my wedding has come and gone, my favorite posts of yours are the DIYs and the Home Decor stuff. I also get tons of ideas for life from looking at your weddings {I think, oh I could do that for a party at my home! Ooo those would be great christmas gifts!}.

Can’t wait to see where you go from here! Congrats and best wishes on your re-launch!

    {Also, you gave me the BEST advice about my recent trip to NYC. I tried to be cute and wear boots my first day and my feet were DYING, so I had to switch it up to my not as cute running shoes. Loved that city, though!}

  36. Megan L says:

I LOVE seeing your DIY posts, pep talk tuesdays and when you have posts about your personal life ( showing rooms in your home, anniversary pics, zoey, etc.) I really love it all!! :)

  37. Julie says:

I absolutely adore your blog! I got married September of 2011 and found you during the planning process. Actually ordered my wedding invites from papertalk press after seeing your post! I still enjoy you’re wedding posts, especially the ones from your own wedding. LOVE the DIY and looooooooove your home decor! Could I hire you to decorate mine someday? No, really? :) I live in California and am determined to hire you to plan a wedding for one of my sisters someday. I really look forward to your instagram photos as well. You’re so very talented. Basically I love the whole blog. Totally my style 100%

  38. Hi pretty lady! I love your blog. My favorite posts are the home/office and diy’s! I also love sneak peeks into weddings, but I follow your instagram feed for that! Love it all. Keep it up!
