Instalove Friday

Thank goodness for Friday. There’s a reason someone coined the acronym TGIF right?

HGEBouquet

If I had to be honest guys, I’d tell you this week was overwhelming. Despite all of the pretty blooms and endless prop building that consumed my days and nights, it was a long one. Case in point: I haven’t even blogged since last Friday. I’ve also been reading a lot about businesses ownership and this blog post here really struck a chord with me. Those Sage Wedding Pro chicks really are some of the wisest and smartest pros in the industry. They ALWAYS have something to learn from. For a while I suffered from the comparison symdrome where it felt like everyone around me had it figured out and I swore I wouldn’t ever be able to have ‘it’ myself. But truth is everyone has business problems behind closed doors. And nothing is ever as it seems. Does it mean everyone is miserable in this industry? Not necessarily, but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and this article was a sweet reminder of just that. Go read the post now :)

With that I’m off to assemble invitation box mailers for a June client, then I have to tackle some more paper cone garlands and finish up some timelines. Tomorrow we’re hoping to stain the deck and soak up my second to last weekend before wedding season officially begins for HGE. Did I mention it’s my birthday on Sunday too? I have a special little post planned for that so check back later. Happy weekend, beauties. Make it a good one xoxo

HGE Mother’s Day Flowers

Guys, I’m so excited about this post today. Not only because it includes a pretty picture like this one below…

HGEFlorals

But because I happen to think I have the best Mom in the whole entire world, and I’m thinking most of you out there probably think the same thing about yours too. So to celebrate all of those amazing Moms out there this Mother’s Day I thought it would be appropriate and oh so fun to offer lovely pre-ordered arrangements for customers in the Grand Rapids and Rockford, Michigan communities. I’ll be designing and selling arrangements like the one above, filled with peonies, roses and other yummy pretties your Mom will love, all tucked into a sweet little clear hobnail vase (for pricing on an arrangement of this size with these blooms please contact me). The vases will be packaged with tissue and ready to go either late in the afternoon of May 12th or the morning of May 13th. Delivery to certain areas is available at a minimal fee but if you can pick up your blooms in person, I may have some fresh baked cookies for you as a treat. And a high five for being so awesome and supporting a small business much like the one run by yours truly.

To order an arrangement for your Ma, email me over at hello@heygorg.com and we can chat about all of the details! I can’t wait to infuse my surrounding community with a whole lot of Hey Gorg goodness. Have an amazing morning, friends and stop by Kelly Braman’s blog today to say hello! She took that beautiful photo you’re seeing up there xoxo

Pep Talk Tuesday {Waiting}

If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.

HeyGorgGarland

I went through and cleaned up my Pinterest boards a little over the weekend. I came across the above quote that I had pinned months ago and it really hit a nerve with me. I’ve taken so many risks in business and life over the past year and as a result really feel like I’m starting to settle into a sense of being and a lifestyle that feels good on the inside. But here’s the catch. My life, while wonderful is so so far from perfect. There’s things I’m working on consistently, things that I get worked up over, bad habits I could afford to break, good habits I could stand to keep, and the list goes on. Living with purpose and meaning takes work, and making decisions to get to where we want to be is uncomfortable.

But that’s exactly what makes the above so lovely, right? That little quote taunts us a little and makes us wonder if we’re really wasting time just waiting for that perfect moment to do whatever it is we want to do. For me, at one point, it was starting my business (thankfully I didn’t dwell on this for too long). Then at another point it was choosing to rebrand my business. Then shortly there after it was adding floral deisgn to my offerings. That move took a lot of guts to make for a lot of reasons. For some of you maybe it’s getting to the gym to lose the weight you gained during your pregnancy. Maybe it’s going back to school to get your masters. Or maybe it’s something as simple as cleaning out the garage in anticipation of spring. We all have things we put off or hold back from because we don’t feel ready.

So get ready. And do it. Read this post here too. Around this time last year I took a blogging, social media and all around life break because I wasn’t ready to live the life I wanted. For a good two weeks I cried big girl tears and felt sorry for myself every single day. Poor Andrew probably dreaded coming home to my misery. I felt like I had to make decisions based on how they would make others feel and I absolutely felt the negative effects of thinking this way. Fixing this mind set wasn’t an overnight fix but where I am now 365 days later is truly and absolutely 110% an amazing blessing.

Go on with yo badselves today, blogettes. You’re ready! xoxo

Published {Southern Weddings Magazine}

So I’m going to preface this blog post with the fact that I’m not from the South. I’m actually from Canada and currently live in Michigan, so really I’m very far from having any southern roots (darn). But you see, I have a secret crush on the South. I seriously pinched myself when I was asked to share why I love all things southern because the truth is there’s a lot of things that this girl living up in the Mid West kind of loves. If you’ve managed to score a copy of this drop dead magazine (seriously, I cannot express how incredibly stunning, well put together and aesthetically pleasing Southern Weddings is!) chances are you came across a section that includes little quotes on what some wedding pros love most about the South. I’m honoured to be included in this fun feature. There I am in the bottom right hand corner with Camille Styles! Well, pick my peas, right?

Also, if you head over to page 60 you’ll see a bouquet I created is featured. Holy bananas. Kelly Sweet did you see?

I’m thankful for opportunities like this. What are you thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving weekend, friends xoxo

Confessions of a Rebrand

Happy Tuesday, guys! It’s been a while since I blogged a rebrand post but I promise today’s a good one. See, this rebrand has brought so many unexpected and incredible things my way and it’s been such a blessing getting to document it all here. The constant soul searching has been especially beneficial for my confidence and for that I feel nothing but gratitude. When you’re a business owner, regardless of what you’re selling or trying to accomplish, it’s so easy to believe in your own ideas and to essentially and internally believe in what you’re capable of. We all have that inner cheerleader tirelessly rah rah-ing her pompoms in our favor because on the inside there’s nothing holding us back. No one telling us ‘no.’ The issue often ends up being able to convince everyone else that you can do it. And you can do it really well. Throughout this journey I’ve loved not only sitting at the drawing board to create the most perfect representation of me, Hey Gorgeous and everything we’re about, but I’ve loved discovering that missing sense of confidence that I feel is so crucial in helping me make my goals my reality.

I’ve never officially announced this, and for the majority this is old news, but with the relaunch will come an official new offering at HGE. In addition to my current partial and full service planning, and full wedding styling services I’ll be offering in house floral design. Flowers are such an integral part of any event design and including this as an extension to my exsiting levels of services was such a natural and desirable transition to make. Guys, I just typed all of that to you. I’ve been waiting over a year to actually type those words. I’ve been working like a flower obsessed crazy woman, making sure this is IT. And between you and I, let me tell you this, I could not be more excited about 2013. Talking flowers with clients, incorporating blooms into tablescape designs, and using fresh foilage to bring together a vision for a client, makes me so incredibly happy. Life’s too short to be anything but right? Right. Flower design? Yes. Planning? Yes. Decor? Yes. Ice cream? Always.

Five weeks guys. Just five weeks to go until the new Hey Gorgeous goes live. If I can be honest for a second here, which come on, when am I not honest with you all, I’d tell you I could hardly sit still waiting for December 18th to finally roll around. It’s going to be really nice. Really exciting, lovely, special, and nice. ‘Nice’ feels just right. And I cannot wait to share it all with you! In the meantime here’s a little bit of gorgeousness going into the floral gallery on the new website. I loved this bouquet which was a mock up for a client and just adored the way it looked on that blue chair. Leah Mullett took these gorgeous photos and I am so grateful for her talented eye and supportive friendship. Go check out her blog now would you?

In the meantime I’ll be over here building a design proposal based around unicorns. Seriously. Ah-mazing xoxo
